Purpose:

This course is designed for individuals who are working in settings with minimum hazards and a low number of employees.  Individuals will develop the skills required to deal with an injured or ill person.  

Delivery:

The course is delivered for 6 hours (one day), or in shorter sessions for flexibility (for up to 3 weeks). Sessions times can be arranged to meet your needs (weekdays, weekends, daytime or evening).  The courses are delivered and assessed by accredited trainers and assessors.

Entry requirements:

Candidates are required to be at least 14 years of age prior to certification.

Content: 

  • Incident management

  • Chain of survival

  • Primary and Secondary surveys

  • Airway control: recovery position

  • The roles and responsibilities of the Emergency First Aider

  • Choking

  • Recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness

  • Assisting a casualty who is suffering from injury and illness

  • Burns and scalds

  • Record keeping

Assessment and Certification:

Practical assessment is ongoing, and theory assessment is via a question paper. 

Certification is valid for three years, though an annual updating course is recommended.

All candidates will receive a first aid manual.
