During 2011, The British Standards Institute published BS 8599-1: 2011 Workplace First Aid Kits. This clearly established a standard for workplace first aid provisions; the contents of the new kits are more appropriately aligned with today’s workplace risks and first aid needs.

The BS 8599-1 first aid kits meet the needs of the modern catering environment.  The kits are designed for use within kitchen and food preparation areas.  It is recommended that there should be at least one small first aid kit when a workplace has fewer than 25 employees.  It is also advised that a first aid kit and a first aider can reach a casualty within 60 seconds of an initial call for assistance.
